Goblin Talk

Goblin Talk is a prototype developed for my Masters Research Project (MRP) Thesis on designing & developing a multiplayer collaborative narrative framework for video games.

Up to 4 players take control of customizable goblins embarking on a road trip to the greatest beach party in the land. In its current state, Goblin Talk is a proof-of-concept demo of one possible way video games can further explore the collaborative storytelling of tabletop roleplaying games using nodal narrative, systemic emergence, and a multi-participant dialogue system.

When in conversation with an NPC, the collaborative response building dialogue system (as I've decided to call it) deals each player 3 possible dialogue response cards to choose from and then sums each player's selected response into an overall response that is then assessed against the NPC's stat array to determine its response.

There's a lot of future work to be done on this project that I'm excited to pursue! Adding more meaningful dialogue card systems and synergies, more flexible conversations, deeper goblin customization, online multiplayer, better UI, more story events... the possibilities are endless! For now, enjoy messing around with the demo
